What a great Father’s Day Weekend at GCC!!  And ALL the men are going to be honored AND harassed!  Let’s give it up for all the men in the house!

I love those Dos Equis commercials!!  “His personality is so magnetic he’s unable to carry credit cards.” “He is the life of parties he never attended.” “His charm is so contagious, vaccines were created for it.” “Sharks have a week dedicated to him.”  When he and his father had THE talk, he did all the talking … he is the most interesting man in the world.”

I had an interesting week!  Ride the Rockies with these “interesting” men…

Dave- 62 but calves of a 21 year old!  Kenyon- you’re not going to catch him going downhill!  Richard- can ride, text, take photos, and shave while riding!  Matt- the most polite kid you’ll ever meet, takes after his Mom!  Dan- only man I know who can wear a powder blue leotard outfit!  Mark- he’s a big ole mamma bear, makes sure everyone is good!

Big Questions is: “What makes YOU the most interesting man in the world?”

  • You can belch the alphabet… backwards… standing on your head??
  • You can name every Super Bowl, World Series, NBA, NHL, Master’s, Elk Calling, Tobacco Spitting… champion for this year… for the past 10 years… ever??
  • You can tell an honest fishing or hunting story… without embellishment??

But that’s not what makes you the most interesting man in the world!  YOU WILL BE THE MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WOLRD WHEN YOU…

  1. LIVE ON MISSION (God’s purpose and plan for your life)
  2. LEVERAGE YOUR INFLUENCE (Have the greatest possible positive impact)
  3. LEAVE A LEGACY (Provide something powerful for those who will follow you)

These 3 things, as they are focused and framed within the context of your family, your friends, and your fellow workers is what will make you the most interesting man in the world!

Of course… Jesus IS the most interesting man in the world and few will argue this.  So, as men, what can we learn from him in these three areas- mission, influence, and legacy??  The “Dos Equis” man says, “Stay thirsty…” but Jesus says,“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.  (Jn. 6:35).

Living on mission is the most satisfying, enjoyable, life-fulfilling quest a man will ever undertake!  Jesus understood this and so should we!

Men “thirst” for adventure, for something to conquer, for a sense of ultimate worth.  Ride The Rockies quenches my thirst for adventure, to accomplish a goal!!  But… NOTHING can accomplish this in your life more than taking hold of the mission God has purposed and planned for you life and pursuing it, living it every day!

Because men are wired for accomplishing a task- a mission, YOU will THRIVE, and quench your thirst for an adrenalin filled life when you, like Jesus, determine to focus on and fulfill the MISSION you were SENT for!

Jon Mata… Trevon Stolfuz… How they combine their passions, how they’re wired, with the greater mission of Christ….

Jesus said in John 4:34 “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.”

So, MEN, “What is God’s MISSION- purpose and plan, for your life?”

  1. To have a right relationship with Jesus Christ- man up with God, make that your mission!
  2. To realize the specific role, gifts, talents, opportunities, etc. God has given you to live out your mission!
  3. To relate how Jesus loves, lives, and leads on mission to your family, friends, fellow workers!

Why this will be so “interesting” is because it is YOUR unique calling and circle of influence…

Leveraging your influence basically means you are taking advantage of the many opportunities you already have to “exert power in a positive wayon those you intersect and interact life with!

Your family… your friends… your fellow workers… What will make you more interesting than anyone else is that you’re not leveraging your influence in a manipulative or political or some other self serving way, but to MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR OTHERS- especially your family!  You leverage your influence when you provide, empower, and protect…

OT Pea Patch Guy!!  He defended his garden, his house, his wife and kids against the enemy!  (See 2 Sam. 23:11-12)

So, MEN, “How are you leveraging your influence for the greatest possible positive impact?”

  1. How can you “lead” and “influence” by better SERVING your family’s needs?  Friends?  Fellow workers?
  2. How can you “lead” and “influence” by empowering your family?  Friends?  Fellow workers?
  3. How can you “lead” and “influence” to make a difference in the world??

This is an inscription on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop in Westminster Abbey: “When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world.  As I grew older and wiser I discovered the world would not change.  So I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country, but it too seemed immovable.  As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.  And now I realize as I lie on my deathbed, if I had only changed myself first, then by example I might have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement I would then have been able to better my country.  And who knows, I might have even changed the world.”

I don’t know how true that is- that it actually exists, but it is TRUE!  If you want to be “interesting” and leveraging your influence, have SOMETHING SUBSTANTIAL TO LEVERAGE– and that starts by allowing God to change and grow you!

Truth is, Mission IS Influence, and Influence IS YOUR legacy!  A legacy is all about leaving something powerful and significant for those who will follow you.

Will you, are you, living a life, a mission, influence, WORTH following and carrying on??  Obviously, Jesus left a remarkable legacy and we are all here today, in church, proving it!!  His life, life, his mission, his influence, his legacy, is HIS CHURCH and we still follow him today!

Jesus’ remarkable words should challenge and encourage us:  “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”  John 14:27

Think about it brothers… and sisters… WHAT WILL YOU LEAVE?  What will be left behind you that others will find INTERESTING enough to want to take hold of, follow, pursue, carry on??  Especially your family, friends, or fellow workers…

Jo Ann’s dad…

To me, the greatest legacy I can have is that my children WILL WANT TO SERVE GOD because of the life I lived!

Close:  Yes, Jesus was the most interesting man in the world because he lived on mission, had significant influence, and left a legacy.  As men, what will make you the most interesting man is your mission, your influence, and your legacy- uniquely and intentionally lived out every day among your family, friends, and fellow workers!
